Laguna Surf and Sport specializes in boards for snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding. The shop is filled with clothing for men, women and kids with everything from board shorts to bikinis. Large selections of wetsuits, wet shirts and all the accessories needed for a comfortable day in the cold Pacific Ocean are for sale. Billabong, O'Neil and Excel are a few of the manufacturers that are represented on the overflowing shelves. Many different selections of board accessories can be purchased in the store or online.
Synonymous with surf history, Hobie Surf Shop was started by local legend, Hobie Alter. Since 1958, Hobie's has been making surfboards, and over the last fifty years has become a purveyor of skimboards, skateboards, snowboards, wakeboards, waterskis and catamarans.
In addition to their various sports gear, they also offer a wide range of apparel and accessories for women, men and children, with swimsuits, towels, sunglasses, hats and sunscreen in one stop a block from the beach. Lines carried in-store includes RVCA, Hurley, Roxy, Quiksilver, Havaianas and their own Hobie brand.
Since 1992, Toes on the Nose has been selling classic surf attire and accessories for men, women and children. Owner, John Severson has been surfing and publishing his magazine, Surfer Quarterly since 1961 and has his shop specializing in long boarding style.
Surf lessons are available from qualified instructors for all levels. Beginners to advanced and private lessons are $100 for 1 ½ hour with semi private 2 hour lessons for $120. Softboards, which are made of foam, are available for rental during lessons.
Lessons are at the Newport Beach office and 24-hour notice is required. Special group and party rates are available upon request. The latest craze is stand up paddling lessons, private and group lessons are available by special request, call the shop for more information. Mom's can even get into surfing with their special Surf Momma's Class.
Surf San-O T-Shirt, Lucky pocket T-shirt, Lighthouse Boardshorts and Boardwalk Walkshorts are available for purchase on-line, along with a large selection of other clothing items. Customized Hawaiian shirts are available for any occasion, and you can choose from the store's large selection of prints and have each one embroidered for a personalized gift.
Thalia Surf Shop carries an eclectic lineup of surfing gear, with many of the pieces considered as one-of-a-kind works of art. Surfing and art t-shirts are made with distinctive custom logos made specifically for Thalia Surf Shop. High-quality new and used surfboards are on display, as well as a section for skateboards, and repairs can be scheduled and done in-store. Surf hats, just one of the many unique items that are sold at this store, mix old styles with new and are hand-knit with custom logos. Wet suits are made by Axxe, Nine Plus, O'Neil, Heroi and Matuse and come in a variety of colors, styles and types of rubber.
